The Kona Cup

Big night in the HoM. Our first (and hopefully annual) tribute/spin to the Ironman World Championships. The set-up: Five CompuTrainers riding in Multi-Rider format starting at mile 35 of the Kona course. Those of you who know this stretch of steaming asphalt will quickly recognize that it includes the climb to Hawi. Visual was actual course footage shot in 2008 for CompuTrainer Real Course Video*. Every ten minutes the video would cut to archival footage of other sections of the race from prior years. The goal was to log as many miles in 90 minutes as weary legs could amass. Winner then earned the Kona Cup, an official coffee mug from this years event. It was fun. Tony put on a strategic and successful charge at the finish to take top honors, finishing with 18.73 total miles over the allotted time and challenging terrain. Way to go Tony!

Here are a couple of links, this one some terrific coverage of this years Kona event from TriAddict.com and this link to another CompuTrainer Multi-Rider Center, this one in St. Louis, MO.

Congratulations to everyone who participated last night, we'll do it again soon.

*The Kona RCV currently available was shot in 2007 and was not filmed in the pack as the 2008 footage. I believe the 2008 footage to be superior to the 2007. This, solely for the record.
