Chapter 89 (Frankie's Pond)

The fountain of youth is inside every one of us, she said with a calm sincerity.
All we need to do is allow the body to become one with the universal power of the mind manifest in this noble truth. Is it written somewhere that you have to quit your work once you reach 65, or that you must discontinue playful outdoor activities once adulthood is obtained? The only people who want this are the manufacturers of canes, crutches and motorized wheelchairs. You bring on your suffering, pain and aging as a result of your stinking thinking. Think young, play like a child, laugh, frolic, dedicate the next 20 weeks to finding your passion and power through a rigorous routine. Be happy and smile. Be grateful you have this opportunity, here and now, for a quantum leap of body consciousness. Hear each drop of water in the fountain and see eternity in the veins of every washed stone. Breathe, relax, work, play. But, please, get started today.

Overheard at Frankie's Pond.

Your notion of hearing each drop of water made me think of a story I heard on kuow yesterday: Gordon Hempton was being interviewed re: a book he wrote entitled One Square Inch of Silence. He makes reference to Muir’s journal in which he talked about “snow melting into music”. They play a sound recording and the rhythm of the drips sounds like jazz. Completely beautiful. They also play a recording of two coyotes and ask: “is this a recording of coyotes, or is this a recording of silence made audible by coyotes?”

Further, there is a strategy in music (and music composition and hence editing video) called 'playing the pause', which means, natch, using the silence to your benefit, augmenting it, or playing off of it. I just read a piece tonight about Galileo who said that he liked music where "softness is modified with sprightliness, giving at the same time the impression of a gentle kiss and of a bite." Oh my.

Nice comments. I hate to break the 'sounds of silence' chain but are you guys running in the 5/17 Rhody Run? (if so I could drive).

You drive and I'll run, (it's a vision that was planed in my brain--and still remains.)

OK deal. There may be ten thousand people, maybe more. You can't beat me in the race though.

That would be up to you...and the other 9,998!

In restless dreams I'll walk alone, narrow streets of cobblestone - will be in Beantown that weekend. Have fun.
