This just in from The Onion:
I am sorry if this singed your ears Mom, but it is fucking hysterical you must admit.

In 2007 RacerMate Inc of Seattle, Wa. hired me to produce their new software line of products to be called, TA DA, Real Course Videos. So almost overnight I became (cue the theme music) RCVman. This is the story of my work on the road, filming triathlons and searching for true love. Some things never change.

Perfect. TIME VAMPIRE!@#@#$%%
Actually, if you haven't read it, you should get a copy of Bill Bryson's book, "Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid" about his growing up in the 50's in Des Moines, Iowa. Funny book. Among other things (and you might remember this better than I)people used to invite their neighbors into their homes to see the new Amana Stor-Mor or the new RCA TV --- when appliances we now take for granted were like space ships suddenly landed. Of course all of the junk was made in America, a time when the USA also produced 60% of the world's oil supply. No need for shooting Iraqis or Afghans back then.
I have read some of BBs work , but not that one, so I'll check it out (being a child of the 50s).
What makes the Sony piece so funny, to me, is the way that they parody the way every news station in America covers "events". "Oh yeah, this is BIG (right), we're here LIVE (not) with an EXPERT (not) to cover this breaking STORY (not)." Cue the dramatic music and flash some graphics and call it news. Time Vampires is right.
Remember I turned off my TV just before JR was shot. I have turned it back on about ten times since then, for:
Eight Husky football games
Presidential debates
NBC Ironman special
To be fair and balanced (!) I did rent Deadwood and Mad Men on Netflix.
Anyone who works in or with techology will bust a gut with this piece. This is the review that you'll never see from The Wall Street Journal's Walt Mossberg but you think he would write. NYT's David Pogue would be one of the guys telling us what would be so good about it.
Welcome FW. Yeah, I'm quite sure the geeks are still ROTFL. I am. Almost coughed up $1,200 today for a piece of software I "kinda" need. The alternative is a $139 (thanks Virgin) one day trip to SF. Then again, just having new software that does nothing would make me feel better, no doubt.
OK I got it now, FW. There was the momentary hubris of a new voice in the THREE PART harmony!
