Humans!
Ran across this today. Couldn't agree more. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/living/2008803434_zliv02marriage.html
7. Don't be a Darren Stevens. In the old sitcom "Bewitched," Samantha merely had to wiggle her nose to make incredible things happen. Darren was always trying to get her to stop using her magical powers.
Even as a little kid, I thought the guy was nuts. He could have had anything he wanted. Instead he tried to get Sam to stifle her gifts. Encourage your partner in her gifts.

yeah, but who needs magic anyway when Barbara Eden is around.
That was Genie. Elizabeth Montgomery played Samantha. Sam to you.
That's interesting -- both were women with gifts that were suppressed by their guys. Like that was funny. Maybe there's a college class out there where this theme has been examined in depth.
Yes, it was sooooooo 60's. That stereotype plays kinda sad these days. It has been examined to GREAT depths in the classroom called real life. To be fair, the TV writers back then needed conflict and drama, or in this case comedy (by far the hardest of the three) in order to have an episode, and this was what they came up with to appease the audience (and producers and sponsors). Point number 7 in the article states this, "encourage her gifts".
Yes, Genie. All I can say is that when I think of old TV show I must think of Barbara Eden. I think that you guys might be minimizing the real talent or power of Ms. Eden.
Jeannie, as in I dream of...
