Inside Straight

Trails 2

On way home today. Taking the slow route for once. Stopped at the Cedar Pocket SP in Arizona this afternoon just off of I-15 on way from StG to Vegas. I am very much enjoying this dry desert heat, the red rocks, the Joshua Trees, the blue sky and all the lizards. So I filmed Trails 2 and will (possibly) post if when I get back tomorrow after a quick view. Here are some stills however of todays spontaneous hike. I am back in LV at the Main Street Station, way up downtown, where there is a free street fair tonight featuring Blood Sweat & Tears. I am going to try to rally for it but if not I will add Lucretia McEvil to the set list upon return.

It was a good trip. Lots to do upon return as I promised Burke and Tonya that I would get them each some video soon. Plus there is IM Moo laying in wait and the IMC trailer that I would like to have ready for the soon to be released IM Canada RCV (whoa, there is a news-flash!) Also need to get in some serious saddle time as just filming and trail walking, while wonderful, won't get me anywhere near IM shape. And I miss that.

This looks like great mountain bike territory. I'm thinking of trading my road bike for one of those modified rock-hoppers where you have to hop from one moon rock to another on your back tire. very cool and less dangerous than road biking. also you can listen to tunes while you bike.

Dude, you need both. But keep the tunes where they belong, INDOORS. A RCVman PSA.

Yeah, this looks like Navoho and Apache country. Really beautiful. I taped Stage 16 of the Giro Italia, The commentators say 3 Category 1 climbs on the route. 12 percent grade at stretches. A guy named Denis Menchov of Rabobank is leading and they keep calling him DENNN NIS. Gee, have these guys ever been to France or Europe in general. Reminds me of the US calling Lyon LYONS. Whats up with that..it would be like Europe coming here and calling it NEW YORKS.

Is there any wonder that the native tribes had such a powerful and deep respect for the spirit of the land? I mean that lizard in the middle photo and I had a lengthy conversation on why the white man is so.....

well...

fat and lazy? maybe?

Are you talking about me? I think I came back white. It was so hot you needed peyote and a nice sweat house to achieve that dream state of air conditioning. I did not see that lizard. The rock looks like the jaw bone of a dinosaur. I think the Apache got so pissed at whitey that they'd tie down the soldiers on their back on an ant hill and cut their eye lids off. Or at least that is the propaganda I watched growing up.

This Giro leg I'm watching is 15,000 vertical feet at 88 plus degree temps.

Well we have come full circle then, because I am convinced that the NA Casinos are getting full karmatic revenge on pale face by raking in the dough after they KEEP THINKING THEY CAN DRAW TO AN INSIDE STRAIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you burn that stage to DVD?

Maybe. I also taped the LA Marathon show ran today. Course record for the men, a Kenyan I think, at 2:08:23. Winner got car, bonus and purse valued at 189K total. A Russian woman named Petrova also won.

I have some vivid memories of this event, a great race, spectacle and accomplishment for all. The thing that I REALLY like about it is that despite the fact the the Kenyan men have now won 11 years in a row, they are not scorned, jeered and followed by drug testers like some American athletes (cyclists) are in a few European countries. Nome sane?

I need to ramp it back up and run another Mary, they hurt SOOOOOOO much. For the record my 95, 96 & 97 times in LA were over an hour slower than this years winning time.

I gotta, then, ask this question, what is it that we (white) do better than any other race? ANYTHING positive?

And NASCAR doesn't count.

Petrova is Caucasian. She beat all the Kenyan women and there were about 6. There was a woman that started with the elite women group and they started about 16-20 minutes ahead of the men. Anyway, this particular woman looked more like a hammer-thrower than a runner, so I guess build isn't everything. The male winner passed Petrova close to the end and Petrova actually looked like she might pass back.
