Top20Time

THE TOP TWENTY COUNTDOWN BEGINS
(after a word from from our sponsor)

Yes spinner boys and indoor training gals, the RCVman Top One Hundred Spinning Tunes of (when-last year?) No, of ALL- TIME, is now, after weeks of debate, discussion, angry e-mails, research, and over ten years of testing to exacting protocols in the HOP, down to the final twenty tunes.

Will Stairway to Heaven make it? (No)
Will there be any REO Speedwagon? (No)
Will Bob Dylan be number one here as he was over at Rolling Stone? (No)
Will the number one song be from the 90s? (No)
Will it be disco, rap, techno, jazz, punk, ska, bee-bop or metal? (No)
Is it Inna-Gadda-Da-Vida? (No, Butterflyhead)

(cue the drum solo, I mean drum roll. please)

Number 20: Layla, Derek and the Dominoes
Number 19: Gloria, Them
Number 18, Roxanne, The Police
Number 17, All Along the Watchtower, Jimi Hendrix
Number 16, Magic Carpet Ride, Steppenwolf
Number 15, Here Comes My Girl, Tom Petty
Number 14, Baba O'Riley, The Who
Number 13, Long Way to the Top, AC/DC
Number 12, ForePlay/Long Time, Boston

I suppose it is somewhat ironic that next Tuesday I will be posting the TOP TEN, from Lillihammer, Norway. But such is life in the fast lane (#31).

Will it be Abba? (Nei)

That's some pretty good company Mr. Hesse.

Its just that carpet ride has to be in the top three spin songs. spinning is not done to the grateful dead. As for your Scandahoovian trip, I recommend skipping the men's race altogether and moving directly to the candid interviews of the female division/riders with a detour to Stockholm.

MCR: Agreed, a great song.
DEAD: Totally disagree. MOF, I could have done the Top 100 Dead spin tunes.
Norway: It's my job, and these days side trips are expensive. Copy on the ints, however.

I never really understood the GD hype. I guess they were very good (and had some good songs) especially in concert and surrounded by high people. I like a lot of their opening acts. but the GD tunes in my opinion are not high octane enough to affect cycling behavior in any positive manner.

Eez cool mate. Jerry once said: Our fans are like people who like licorice. Now, not everybody likes licorice, but those who do, LIKE IT A LOT.

As we have seen and proven, it's not always about high octane. There are hills after all. LONG, SLOW, LABORIOUS, PAINFUL, dirges of elevation grade where a down-tempo ditty plays nice. Dire Straits comes to mind, Seal, Sting.....

Thanks for your comments. PS: I like licorice.

How can you have a top 100 list without some constructive criticism. :) I guess Jerry designed some nice ties as well. But GD's fame and the superlatives that go with them I think (IMHO) is more about a certain community and time rather than the music's ability to stand alone.
